What we do
Pretrial investigations and releases
We give the court information about people who were recently arrested on new criminal charges. This information helps the court decide whether to release someone from jail while their criminal case is pending. Information provided includes criminal history, community ties, and a risk assessment. Staff work 24/7 in the jail to conduct investigations and generate reports for court. Jail staff also facilitate the probable cause review process & own recognizance release decision process.
Pretrial supervision
A judge might order that a person released from jail while their criminal case is pending be supervised by our office. Our office will monitor that person to see if they are following the rules. This is called a Supervised Own Recognizance Release (SORP). The judge will decide which rules a person needs to follow and what happens if a person is not following the rules.
Prefiling diversion
The District Attorney might give someone the chance to participate in a program to avoid having charges filed. Our office monitors people to see if they complete the program successfully.
